The Job of Police Officers :: Police Law Enforcement Essays
The Job of Police Officers à à à à à A police officerââ¬â¢s duty is to maintain public order, preventing, and detecting crime. The concept of police officers, also known as cops, and law enforcement has been around ever since the ancient Romans had a theory that an organization of ââ¬Å"peacekeepersâ⬠would reduce the crime and violence being committed. This theory stuck with society and is still around today. People of law enforcement have a mission when they step into their police car, that mission is to enforce the rules of conduct or law. Of course, accomplishing this mission can be dangerous. Often when a cop leaves his or her house to go to work worries start to set it, such as ââ¬Å"will I be coming back home when my day is overâ⬠or ââ¬Å"will a simple traffic stop go sour and someone ends up dead?â⬠These thoughts are apart of the stress that comes with the job and most people are trained to deal with this stress. à à à à à Speaking of training, there are classes that a high school student can take to prepare for a career in law enforcement. Psychology, sociology, foreign languages, and computer courses are recommended for those students who plan to take criminal justice as their higher education major. Participating in sports can improve your chances on becoming an officer of law because it improves strength and endurance. Other student activities can be helpful in this career because they help to improve leadership skills and other publications. Every law enforcement agency has different requirements for qualification; however, almost all of them require a college degree. You can either have a degree in police science, administration of justice, public administration, or criminal justice to qualify for employment. English, Sociology, Psychology, Personal Computer Operations, Survey of Criminal Justice, and Principles of Criminology are classes that need to be taken to complete a cr iminal justice major. Almost every college nationwide offers these classes. (ââ¬Å"Police and Detectivesâ⬠). There are many colleges that offer either an Associateââ¬â¢s degree or a Bachelorââ¬â¢s in criminal justice or any other type of law enforcement class. However, the decision is whether to attend a two-year community college and receive an Associateââ¬â¢s degree or whether to attend a four-year community or state college to receive a Bachelorââ¬â¢s degree. Some colleges that offer an Associateââ¬â¢s degree in criminal justice are Delaware Technical and Community College, Gibbs College, and Hagerstown Business College. Some colleges that offer a Bachelorââ¬â¢s degree in criminal justice are Wilmington College, Brown College, and Parks College.

A Person Who I Admire
A person who I admire A person who I admire is an interesting topic. I believe you can admire more than one person. A typical admiration I have seen is when people boy, are admiring a very famous singer, actor etc. although it is typical, it is still a good admiration because you can use that person as your role model or idol. Fx. If your role model is a sportsman, then you can admire his performing skills, and maybe learn something from him or her. But trough my life I have admired many persons, friends, older people, teachers, etc.All these people have given me experiences and personal abilities which I have acquired with help from them. My opinion is that I cannot admire one person specially. When I admire someone I respect the personââ¬â¢s character. After my experience I also admire someone when I am in his presence. A person who can change a bad day to a good day, fx my mother. My mother is defiantly one of my top 3 list over admired persons. Just imagine without your mother you would not exist. Everyone should admire how housemothers are struggling to raise there childrenââ¬â¢s.I am indeed of her proud of my mother, it is because of her that I am that what I am today. When I always have been in a bad mood my mother opened up my minds to look at things in a different perspective. Fx when I has had a problem she shared her experiences with me and learned me to tackle every situation. Another important person who I likes to admire is my father. A father and a mother is an admirable couple that forms a basis of a childrenââ¬â¢s life. My parents are like advisers, I can talk to them when I need help. They are motivating me to achieve my goal. I promised myself when I grow older and start a family, i will tell my childrenââ¬â¢s about my childhood and how I admired my parents. At least my expectation for myself is that I can be a loved parent. I really hope that I will have the same kindness that my parents have. My parents taught me that I can have a good life in 2 ways. The first one is a life full of material comforts, good economy, good education, and high position in the society. The second one is life where you are satisfied with your life, and when you have a good family and good friends, but it doesnââ¬â¢t mean it is an opposite life where you live in extreme poorness you have some material comforts. But letââ¬â¢s say that you lose some money. Then you should not get sad and frustrated because there is something more important than money in our lives. I have a friend at my soccerteam. Once a time he told me about his childhood, and that before he came to Denmark he had lived in Afghanistan. He was 4 when he and his family escaped from war.He said that he lived a good life in Afghanistan. His father owned a company, and they have a good economic. But when the war started the family was forced to run away from the country. Now his father is a cleaner and his mother is on social society. But even though he had been th rough that he is still happy that he lives in peacefully Denmark. Thatââ¬â¢s a life my parents taught it is possible to live a life with happiness without being a millionaire. That is what I most admire my parents for, teaching me about life.I think every human on this planet should admire his parents and look up to them, am proud of being there child. Without my father I would not know how to be a man. No one can reprove me like my father. If a child grows up without a father he is missing some basic abilities. The same is if a girl child grows up without a mother something will be missing. My parents have done a lot to me, they have sacrified time, nerves, and energy just to raise me up, and I have not forgotten all that hard work. Thatââ¬â¢s why im not just admiring them but also respecting them when they are giving me orders.I am helping them with assignments. Finally I very appreciate them for after my opinion being the best parents for me. My parents are them who I admir e most, I donââ¬â¢t know exactly why but your parents will always be there for you. A friend or some other randomly people are not the same as your parents. When you admire you parents they are admiring you too, thatââ¬â¢s maybe not the same to other people. You like them but maybe they donââ¬â¢t like you. Even when my parents die I will remember them in my mind and there soul and goodness will still be living in me.

Essay on MLK and Malcolm X - 1279 Words
Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X were very influential civil rights advocates during the nineteen-fifties and nineteen-sixties, and continue to have an influence on people today. However, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X have quite different legacies, of which are based on quite different philosophies and tactics. To understand why Dr. King and Malcolm X had drastically different thoughts and approaches to civil rights in the United States, their lives must also be looked at ââ¬â as their lives leading up to their leadership were drastically different. Because of this, Malcolm moved in with a friend of his family. Up until 1939, Malcolm was a very successful student (much like Martin Luther King, Jr.). This changed when he had a conversation with his English teacher. When asked what Malcolm wanted to be when he grew up, he said a lawyer. Although this never happened, he did become a very influential figure, which may have still happened had he been a lawyer. However, the response he received was not great ââ¬â in fact, it was horrible. The teacher replied that such an occupation is unreasonable for a black person, and thus he should aim for a job as a laborer, such as a carpenter. Discouraged, Malcolm began to slack in school, and eventually dropped out at the age of fifteen, unlike Martin Luther King, Jr., who attended Morehouse College and the Crozer Theological Seminary. Keep Struggling Students Working with These Strategies
As a teacher, there is nothing more challenging than trying to help out a struggling student. It can become quite difficult and oftentimes you are left feeling helpless, especially when everything that you have tried doesnt seem to work. Sometimes, it may seem like the easiest thing to do is to just give the student the answer and be done with it, you do have about twenty other kids to attend to after all. However, this is not the answer. All of your students need you to give them the tools to persevere. Here are the top 10 teaching strategies to help your struggling students keep on going. Teach Students Perseverance In order to succeed in anything in life, you have to work hard. Students who are struggling in school have never been taught that when the going gets tough that they have to push through it and keep on trying until they get it. Try writing down some motivating quotes and tips on how students can persevere and hang them in the classroom for everyone to see. Do Not Give Your Students the Answer Resist the urge to give your students the answer. While this may seem like the easiest thing to it, it is not the smartest. You are the teacher and it is your job to give your students the tools they need to succeed. If you just give them the answer how are you teaching them to do it on their own? The next time you want to save time and just give your struggling student the answer, remember to give them the tool to do it on their own. Give Children Time to Think The next time that you ask a student to give you an answer try waiting an extra few minutes and see what happens. Studies have shown that teachers only wait about 1.5 seconds between when they ask a student a question, and when they ask a student to answer. If only the student would have more time, would they be able to come up with an answer? Do Not Take I Dont Know for an Answer How many times have you heard the words I dont know since you started teaching? Besides giving students more time to think, also make them come up with an answer. Then have them explain how they came to get their answer. If all the children know that it is a requirement in your classroom to come up with an answer, then you will never have to hear those dreaded words again. Give Students a Cheat Sheet Often times, struggling students have a difficult time remembering what is expected of them. To help them with this, try giving them a cheat sheet. Have them write down the directions on a sticky note and place it on their desks, or make sure to always write everything down on the board for the students who constantly need a reference. Not only will this help the students, but it will also deter a lot of them from raising their hands and asking what they have to do next. Teach Time Management Many students have a hard time with time management. This is usually because managing their time seems overwhelming, or simply because they have never been taught the skill. Try helping students with their time management skills by having them write down their daily schedule and how much time they think it takes them for each item that they listed. Then, go over their schedule with them and discuss how much time should really be spent on each task. This activity will help the student understand how managing their time is essential in order for them to succeed in school. Be Encouraging Most of the time students that struggle in the classroom, struggle because they have no confidence in themselves. Be encouraging and always tell the student that you know they can do it. Your constant encouragement may be all they need to persevere. Teach Students to Move On When a child gets stuck on a problem or a question, their first reaction is usually to raise their hand and ask for help. While this is an okay thing to do, it should not be their first thing to do. Their first reaction should be to try and figure it out on their own, then their second thought should be to ask a neighbor, and their final thought should be to raise their hand and ask the teacher. The problem is, you have to teach the students to do this and make it a requirement that they follow. For example, if a student is stuck on a word when reading, have them use the word attack strategy where they look at the picture for help, try to stretch the word out or chunk it, or skip the word and come back to it. Students need to use the tool of moving on and trying to figure it out themselves before asking for help from the teacher. Promote Cognitive Thinking Encourage students to use their thinking caps. This means that when you ask them a question, they should really take the time to think about their answer. This also means that you as the teacher need to come up with some innovative questions that really make the students think. Teach Students to Slow Down Teach students to take it one task at a time. Sometimes students will find it easier to complete the task when they break it apart into smaller, simplest tasks. Once they complete the first part of the task then they can move on to the next part of the assignment, and so on. By taking it one task at a time students will find that they will struggle less.

What I Could Change My Town Or Parish - 1603 Words
If I could change my town or parish, I would have zero tolerance for corruption and insist that the judicial and legal system adhere to a strict policy of honesty and integrity. I see too many circumstances handled in some of the most corrupt methods. One example is that people are suing elderly people over property disputes. The matter goes through the judicial system and the judges do not even follow the laws as they are written. The judges and attorneys have the good-ole-boy sideline agreements. Maybe some of them will exchange money under the table, and forget about the elderly people who cannot afford to defend themselves. It is down-right unethical and violates the civil rights of the public. In the year 2008, an elderly ladyâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The elderly lady felt threatened for herself and her grandchildren, and that raised a tremendous concern to her. Two weeks later, the State Land office sent a notice to the elderly lady indicating that the State no longer required the ââ¬ËRight of Passageââ¬â¢ and that it was an official notice that the ââ¬Å"Right of Passageââ¬â¢ is cancelled. The elderly lady called the State Land office to get clarification of the notice and the person she spoke to told her to immediately file that notice with the parish Clerk of Courtââ¬â¢s office. The very next day, the elderly lady took the papers she received and had them filed at the parish Clerk of Courtââ¬â¢s office. Approximately six months later in the year 2011, the elderly lady had a fence installed because people were cutting down trees that she had previously planted. About a year later in the year 2012, the elderly man asked the elderly lady if he could put a gate on her property so he could acc ess his property. The elderly lady, by the advice of her children, did not allow the elderly man to install a fence. The elderly lady did not want to be held liable for anyone getting hurt while passing on her property. In the year 2013, the elderly man filed suit against the elderly lady and two adjacent

Moral And Philosophical History Of Vegetarianism Essays - Diets
Moral And Philosophical History Of Vegetarianism Vegetarianism is the theory or practice of living solely on vegetables, fruits, grains and nuts. It is practiced for moral, ascetic or nutritional reasons In Western society today meat in many different forms is readily and economically available, yet the current trend shows a growing number of voluntary vegetarians around the world. In the United States, roughly 3 to 4 percent of the total populations are considered vegetarian. The origins of modern day Vegetarian philosophy and its influences can be traced back nearly three thousand years. . Most vegetarians are people who have understood that to contribute towards a more peaceful society we must first solve the problem of violence in our own hearts. So it's not surprising that thousands of people from all walks of life have, in their search for truth, become vegetarian. Many well known influential philosophers have both preached as well as practiced its inherent advantages. The earliest archeological data we have that suggest a voluntary partial vegetarian diet is the Old kingdom of Egypt. There are hieroglyphic inscriptions, which suggest the avoidance of eating some animals. The priests avoided eating pig for its lack of cleanliness, and cow for their belief that it was sacred mainly did this. This is believed to been practiced as early as 3000 BC. There are few historical sources on the practice of abstaining from meat in ancient Egypt, but we do know it directly influenced the beliefs held across the Mediterranean in Greece. Pythagoras was born off the coast of Turkey on the Island of Samos in the 6th century BC. He is most famous for his well-known proposition about right angle triangles, known as the Pythagorean theorem. Having spent time in Egypt and Babylon, much of his main philosophical teachings are a combination of ideas expressed in the places he traveled to. Pythagoras preached the soul as being abstract and immortal. A soul is within all living creatures, and therefore all creatures, man or beast deserve to be treated compassionately. The soul was said to pass between lives into different living creatures. Therefore in eating the flesh of an animal, one could be eating the flesh of a deceased cousin. This was somewhat revolutionary for a world in which religious ritual was centered on animal sacrifice. He also believed in the concept that an eternal world which was revealed to the intellect through continuous ascetic routines rather then the senses. For two hundred years following Pythagoras death a religion made up of followers of his teachings persisted. As a religious practice of it dissipated, but the teachings were responsible for influencing the likes of Plato and Socrates. Plato frequently makes reference to the migration of souls across species lines. This is in no way a proof that he himself was a Vegetarian, but it does show that one of western philosophies premier philosophers had a regard for animals with certain sensitivity. In Plato's Republic, there is a documented dialogue between Socrates and his student Glaucon. Socrates points out that the eating of animals causes one state to go to war with the other. Cattle were considered great wealth, and states would fight with each other to obtain cattle. Meat was valued as such a luxury that men were willing to die for it. Socrates suggested that the consumption of cattle is somewhat gluttonous rather then of necessity. He suggests refraining from meat would lead to a world with less conflict and greater opportunity for peace. Another great Greek philosopher was Theophrastus. A contemporary of Aristotle, his writings clearly state that if plants and vegetables are abundant there is no need to eat meat. Theophrastus speculates that people only began to eat meat when crops were destroyed in war. The Bible, arguably the most influential document for western philosophy, speaks of a world that begins with a euphoric harmony in which all walks of life are vegetarian. ? And God said, behold I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed, to you it shall be for food. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl
